When I entered UAM-I, as student in 2000, computers were remote machines that only skilled engineers could interact with. Scientists had started talking about one day building machines endowed with “Artificial Inteligence”, wich conjured up images of robots with ability to interact with humans. Thee days we’re all interacting with a panoply fo computarized devices that fit in our pockets. But what happened to the arificial inteligence capabilities we heard so much about decades ago? One answer is that artificial intelligence, or AI, is all around us. Today intelligent programs perform many vital task that used to require human intelligence: they scour billions of financial transactions looking for iregularities, automatically diagnose medical data such as electrocardiograms and blood-cell images ( Bio medical engineer), guide autonomus weapons, fly and land airplains (Comunications) and conduct a substancial portion of each day’s hundreds of billions of dollars of financial investments. These were all research projects in artificial intelligence laboratories one or two decades ago. As technology improves, AI will continue to transform our lives. Within the next decade, many billions of tiny computers will permeate our tables, walls and clothing. Images will be written to our retinas from our eyesglasses and contact lenses, providing full immersion visaul-auditory virtual reality, wich will allow people to “ be together” even if geographically far apart. Augmented reality displays will provide information in our field of vision about people, buldings and objects that you encounter. Internet search engines will have to be asked for imformation you appear to need. When it comes to our brains, the comparasions are even more dramatic. According to semiconductor industry’s road map, computer chips will march the brain’s raw computational ability by about 2020. We still need to learn the software of human intelligence, but we’re gaining on this goal. Spy agencies use advance speech recognition to find key phrases being spoken on monitored communication lines. Large – vocabulary speech recognition over the phone is now ubiquitous. Computers are recognizing faces and fingerprints and automatically cataloging phothograps. The latest computerized language translator are showing impressive results, coming close to human translators on technical texts for a variety of lengages. We are showing that we can turn these enormus data-bases into effective mathematical models and simulations. Two dozen regions ( out of several hundred ) of the brain have already beeb modeled and simulated, including the cerebellum, wich accounts for half the neurons in the brain. These models and simulations are not yet perfect, but they are impressive and perform well in test By the late 2020s, we will be able to introduce intelligent computers into our brains without surgery by sending billions of computarized nanobots througt the bloodstream. These devices will augmented our experiences and our intelligence in a variety of ways. WE ARE THE ONLY SPECIES THAT SEEKS TO GO BEYOND ITS NATURAL LIMITATIONS. MATHMATICS ARE FOR EVER….
